Five years ago Dylan Gomez had it all. He was an up-and-coming boxer with a loving girlfriend, and his sights were set on the big league. Then he let the hype of the fans inflate his ego—he thought he was invincible. That all changed when an alcohol-fueled decision altered the course of his life. He lost his girlfriend and then bit-by-bit his life crumbled around him.

Physical therapist, Regan Holloway, has coasted through life for the last five years. She’s been in the same place all that time and most of her things are still in boxes. Agreeing to a “friendly” date with a co-worker, she ends up ringside and face-to-face with the man she’d fled to forget—Dylan.

Dylan’s turning his life around and working his way back up the ranks; he’s got a big fight lined up in thirty days that will be his ticket back into the pros—if he can win. The only thing holding him back is an old shoulder injury and Regan not being by his side.

When Max, Dylan’s manager, convinces Regan to come with them and work on his shoulder for the fight, she knows she needs to keep things professional so that she won’t be hurt again.

In the thirty-day countdown to the big fight, secrets are revealed, their passion is reignited, and the past threatens to haunt their future. On fight day, Dylan and Regan are truly against the ropes.

Thank you to Under the Covers and Guilty Pleasures for hosting this hop!

Today I’d like to introduce you to my latest release through Decadent Publishing titled Chica Bella. Things get downright sinful between a Navy SEAL and a fiery Mexican woman in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Blurb

Landon “Blackhawk” Walker is ready to get out of the Navy SEALs. He has seen and done enough, and can’t wait to get to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where three tasks await him: get back into civilian mode, take a boat out to the El Arco Rocks, and win back the heart of the woman he lost because of his career.

Maya Gonzalez has tired of the heartbreak that comes with Landon’s deployments year after year. When he walks back into her life again, she cannot deny her heart, despite her reservations. As they lose themselves in each other and the beauty of Cabo their passion is rekindled once again.

Maya knows that one phone call means deployment for Landon, putting an end to their reunion, and possibly their relationship.

Excerpt:

When he took her in his arms, the relief of her decision washed through her. It was simple: she needed to be with him. Her body burned for him, her soul longed for him.
As he pressed his lips to hers, her knees went weak, and she quickly wrapped her hands around his neck to prevent her from falling to the ground in a heap of swooning woman.
It was as if he had never left, as if she had kissed him yesterday. She found she became comfortable in his arms as her body came close to reaching the boiling point where desire overran any rational thought.
“Landon,” she murmured into his lips.
“I’m right here, sugar, right here.”
His lips were everywhere—her neck, her lips, her earlobes. His hands…his hands were everywhere his lips weren’t—her breasts, her waist, her back, her hips.
His hands slid down her leg until it reached the hem of her sundress. She felt the breeze from the fan as the dress came up her thigh. His hand cupped her left buttock.
“Sweet Jesus, Maya,” his voice whispered in desperation as his hand slipped up to her lower back. “You’re going commando, honey. Are you trying to kill me?”

Chica Bella is available at all major ebook retailers

Now that I’m home from the RT Convention, I thought I’d blog about the highlights and share them with you.

First, I was nervous about attending this convention. As a writer, I spend most of my time alone, and a lot of days I’m lucky if I shower before 3pm. The rest of the day is spent in sweats and T-shirts. Actually being around people and needing to look presentable? For multiple days?

Let the panic begin.

As I walked through the airport to catch my plane out of Phoenix, I was very aware that I had never been away from my family for five nights. I was excited, and tried not to think about the chaos that would ensue while I left my son and husband home alone.

When I went through security, I was forced to go through the total body scanners, something I had been able to avoid since they were implemented. Their little machine detected something in my hair, and I had to have my hair searched. Yes, my long, flat hair. However, when I go to the hotel, I realized that I had Mace in my bag. So my hair was a danger, but no one detected the Mace.

Homeland Security was hard at work.

I bought a space in “Promotional Alley” where I was able to lay some swag. Anyone could come through and pick up author magnets, books, cards, bookmarks, pens, etc. I had three hundred pens disappear in 3 days.

All my books on display: the Six Saviors, Time or Money, Chica Bella, the Dark Forces Series

I roomed with fabulous authors Elise Marion and R.K. Ryals. Our first day was SO long. We attended workshops, found our way around, met people, and then hit the Ellora’s Cave Disco party that night. And because it’s Ellora’s Cave, that meant . . . COVER MODELS!

These guys were dancing to a room full of SCREAMING women. And yes, that’s my deadly hair.

YUM #1, me, YUM #2, Elise Marion, YUM #3, RK Ryals

Me shaking my groove thing, baby!

Day two wasn’t quite as crazy, but close. More seminars and meeting more people, and more cover models!

Me and cover model Harvey Stables

That afternoon we attended the Book Expo. It was fun meeting potential new readers and meeting other authors. And there were more . . . cover models!!!!

Do you see how tired I am?? If it weren’t for nerves, my head would have hit the table!

And somehow, I pulled it together that night for the Formal Ball.

I was disappointed there weren’t any cover models, but I got over it.

Day three was amazing. I was in the same room with Lara Adrian, one of my author heroes. I held back from vaulting over the people in front of me and having a total fan girl moment.

Lara Adrian

That night we went to the paranormal ball.

Authors Elise Marion, Me, & R.K. Ryals

I attended some incredible workshops, and I have to admit, I was beyond exhausted. I had heard over and over that RT was so amazing, yet SO tiring. It is definitely both, as most awesome experiences are.

I’m very excited about what the future is going to bring for me and YOU.

Do you believe in Fate and Destiny? I do. I think there is something magical about where people end up in their lives. There are so many different choice we make every single day that change the outcome of every hour of every day, and therefore, our lives. It is amazing to me to think of the journey we are on. Would things be different this hour if I had made a different decision two hours ago?

In my newest release of the Six Saviors Series, Fate and Destiny play a large part in this romance. Every decision that the characters make has a consequence, and we don’t know until much later what that consequence will be. At the end of it all, two of them do find love, and to me, that is the most magical thing of all.

BLURB

After the deaths of her husband and child, tragedies that she blames herself for, Andrea “Andy” Sheaver has shut herself off from the world. The only place she finds any relief from her shattered heart is Club Splendor, where she and her husband often frequented together. There, Andy submits to pleasure and pain in situations so her grief is forgotten for a little while.

But Hunter Sullivan won’t stand idly by and watch Andy self-destruct. A friend of her husband, and the owner of Club Splendor, Hunter has kept his love for Andy hidden for years. He refuses to think of her at the club, cold and detached as she’s become, looking for an easy fix to take away the pain in her heart. Hunter wants her to vibrant in life again and sets out to prove he is exactly who she needs.

Excerpt © Kacey Hammell, 2013

Hunter sighed, which caught Andy’s attention. Her eyes met his briefly before lowering to her hands, which were clenched tight in her lap.

“Look, Andy,” he began.

“What do you want, Hunter?” Her forest-green-eyed gaze met his. Anger swirled in their depths.

“I’m tired of this. Dammit.” He snarled, rising, and crossed to the fireplace. He ran his fingers through his hair and leaned one arm on the mantel. He looked over at her, stomach churning with indigestion and pain. He’d loved Patrick and Peter too. Could she not understand that she wasn’t the only one suffering?

“Tired of what? I never asked you here.”

“This!” Hunter spread his arms wide. “You. I’m so tired of seeing you locked away in this house, never leaving and pictures gone.”

“Go to hell,” Andy spat and leapt to her feet. She moved behind the loveseat, obvious fury making her hands shake as she laid them on the back of it. “You don’t have any say in how I live. I never asked for your opinion. If you don’t like it, get the hell out of my house. And my life!”

Hunter breathed deep, nostrils flaring. He could no more walk away from her than he could from the Sheavers. She was as much a part of his life, and his heart, as they were.

But his love for her went far beyond sisterly.

He pushed that thought away, buried it deep within himself as he’d done for years. She was Patrick’s girl, his wife. He always honored that.

“Dammit, I don’t want to argue with you, Andy. But you really need to move on. Live life again and leave this house.”

“I leave the house. You don’t know what I do every day.”

“Oh yes, you go out. Like the other night? Why did you go to the club? I thought we agreed you were no longer a member,” Hunter demanded, curious about her answer.

“No. You decided I was no longer a member. Not me. I never said I wanted that. Who are you to make decisions for me?” Andy retorted, cheeks flushed, hands on her hips.

Hunter had to admit he was finally seeing a glimpse of the fiery, strong woman she’d been until this last year. He liked her eyes ablaze, jaw clenched and fury radiating off her body. He just needed to provoke her enough and challenge her to move beyond these walls and back to the things she loved to do.

“I don’t want to make decisions for you.” He took a calming breath. “Listen, the club is not the place for you any longer. Without Patrick… There’s no need for you to be there anymore.”

“Why do you think that?”

“He was the one who wanted to show it to you. He never really thought you’d come to enjoy it as much as you did. Neither of you interacted with others. What can you find there now without him?”

Andy smiled, cold and detached. He hated that smirk.

“Oh, come now. You know what happens in your club. Surely, I don’t have to spell it out for you.”

Goddamn her.

Yes, he knew what she’d done inside the room she’d once used with Patrick. Though he normally didn’t interfere in his members’ activities unless there was a problem, he did ask Paige and Nolan if Andy had simply watched. He’d been shocked, then livid, to learn a few details of what happened between the three of them.

Andy had always been a devoted wife to Patrick, faithful to the core. To know she’d been an active participant at the club for the first time had suddenly left him empty and alone.

But he couldn’t allow his feelings on the matter to distract him from pushing her back into life.

He shrugged. “No. You don’t have to spell it out for me. But is that what you truly want and need in your life? Sex with strangers? Do you need to find comfort in people who don’t care about you?”

Andy glared at him. “That is none of your business.” Her voice rose as she continued. “What I do in my life is for me to decide. I never asked to have you in my life. Don’t expect me to want you there now.”

His heart clenched. Her words were like a punch to the gut.

Yes, he’d sort of come as a package deal when she’d married Patrick. But the Sheavers were the only family he had. And when Peter was born, oh, he’d played the dutiful uncle to the little boy. Though she’d never voiced her frustration at his being in attendance at nearly all family gatherings or taking up some of Patrick’s time once a week for a guys’ night out, he’d understood the stone-faced woman who left the words unsaid.

“I always promised Patrick I’d look after you if he couldn’t.”

“Fuck off, Hunter. Don’t give me that.” Her hands fisted at her sides. “Look, please just go. I don’t need you here. I have things to do.”

He wouldn’t be so easily dismissed.

“Things to do? Like what, plan your next adventure at the club? I don’t think so. Why? Explain to me why you felt the need to go there?”

Arms wide, she yelled, “I wanted to fuck somebody. Is that what you want to hear? That I wanted to have a cock inside me for the first time in almost two years? I wanted to have a man inside, pounding me—brutal and painful. What better place to do that than at the club where I know I’m safe?”

Hunter’s heartbeat accelerated. To know she needed someone that close to her was agonizing. It was a barren and desperate act of someone who had nothing to live for. Or didn’t think she was worth much.

“Why pain? You couldn’t have found satisfaction in that. No pleasure, Andy? You, of all people, found pleasure in that kind of sex? I don’t believe for a moment that you’re now into rough sex,” Hunter said, gruff. His mouth was dry, and confusion made his head hurt. Would he never understand this woman?

Andy crossed her arms over her chest. She looked out the window behind him. Her gaze was unfocused, filled with pain.

“Yes, pain. It’s what I deserve, isn’t it?” Her gaze captured his. Hunter felt his heart crack at her desolate look.

Annis, a female SR44 Warrior, was sent to Earth right before SR44 was destroyed. As she struggles to find her place among the Six Saviors, she finds herself the target for Cohen’s unwarranted anger.
Blake, a half-human half-Colonist, has finally discovered a place he calls home. As he and Annis grow closer, his feelings for her can’t be ignored, and he must figure out a way to stay true to his heart or risk losing her forever.

As the Six Saviors are forced into the underbelly of humanity to catch a Colonist’s offspring, and danger from The Platoon threatens to rip the Six Saviors apart, Cohen, Annis, and Blake must face the ghosts of their pasts and try to sort out the tangled web of their lives.

EXCERPT

“Are you sure you’re going to be okay? You’re not going to do anything stupid, are you?”

Cohen stared at his fellow Warrior, Rayner, not really processing what he was saying. He was in a haze consisting of agony, disbelief, defeat, gut-wrenching guilt, and he had put a big, fat cherry on all that with some Captain Morgan, the rum of all rums.

He brought the glass to his lips, his hand shaking. He had to take a piss but didn’t know if his legs would carry his six-foot-four, two hundred fifty pound-frame. Instead, he shifted in his chair and ran his hand through his dark hair.

Finding out that your mate was dead could incapacitate a male.

Cohen looked over at the clock. It had been three hours, two minutes, and fifteen seconds since the news had been delivered, and the conversation kept replaying over and over in his mind.

“SR44 is no more,” Liberty had said. “When we left, it seemed our world exploded from the inside, leaving nothing. It is gone.”

Gone.

His whole reason for existing had disappeared in one fiery, fuck-all explosion.

“Cohen, I need you to talk to me, man.”

He lifted his violet eyes to Rayner’s red gaze and took another drink. What he really wanted was to be left the hell alone. There was only one way that was going to happen; he had to convince Rayner that although he was devastated, he wasn’t going to off himself.

“I’m okay.”

“And you’re not going to do anything stupid?”

“Like what? Drink more rum?”

“No, dumbass, like hurt yourself.”

Cohen threw his head back and laughed. It wasn’t the normal sound that came from his throat, but something that resembled a bullfrog choking on Skittles.

The so not ha-ha funny thing was that he could remove his heart with a butter knife and tweezers and it wouldn’t hurt as badly as what was rolling through him now.

“What’s so funny?” Rayner asked.

“Nothing, man, nothing. There’s not a fucking thing funny right now. Obscene, yes. Disorienting, sure. But funny? Nope.”

Rayner’s eyes narrowed on him. “Where are your guns?”

It was obvious Rayner thought Cohen had lost his jar of dice and would blow out his brains. The guy couldn’t have been more wrong. Cohen had no intention of killing himself; he had too much to atone for, and he needed to be very much alive to do that.

But, whatever. “In the closet. In my gun safe.”

Rayner got up and went to the closet.

“You’re supposed to keep this thing locked,” Rayner said from inside.

He was supposed to do a lot of things. He was supposed to be concentrating on going home to SR44, to see his mate, Mia. He was supposed to honor his mating vows. Keeping his gun safe locked? Pretty far down on the list of important stuff he was supposed to do.

Rayner came out of the closet with a loaded-down black duffle bag.

“You sure you’re going to be okay, Cohen?”

No. Things would never be okay again. He was an SR44 male without his mate. Things were going to be one large pile of smelly crap for the rest of his days.

“Yes. Now go see Faith and leave me alone.”

Rayner stared at him a minute longer, his red eyes piercing him, then headed for the door. Cohen listened as the elevator dinged, announcing its arrival. When he heard the hum of the elevator taking Rayner away, he felt all his emotions—the guilt, the agony, the sheer disbelief that Mia was gone—swelling together, fueling the screams and cries of pain that emanated from his lips.

After a few moments, he was hoarse, and he wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.

He should have honored his mating vows to Mia, but instead he had been whoring around on Earth for the past seventy-five years of the two hundred twelve years he had been on this rock. His betrayal to her ran deep, and he needed to atone for his sins.

Oh, and sinned he had.

I received an email the other day asking me that very question.

As an author, I think it’s impossible to keep real life from seeping into my books, and I think most authors would agree. But just how much goes into books? Are characters based on real people? What about settings?

I can’t answer for all authors, but the more I contemplated this question, the more I realized that people who read my books actually get quite a glimpse into my “real life.”

In this post, I’ll cover the Six Saviors Series. In future posts, I’ll talk about how my life infiltrated the Dark Forces Series, and my contemporary romances.

Have I ever met any huge men with glowing eyes? No. But my husband is 6’5.

As fans of the Six Saviors know, the Saviors live in missile silos. I have been in a missile silo on a trip to Tucson, and it was where the idea for the Six Saviors took form.

The Light Within Me

Abby is someone who has never quite fit in anywhere. Guess what? Me too. I had a group of friends in college where I fit in perfectly. I was talking to one of them the other day, and she mentioned that we all got along so well because we were all a bunch of misfits. Remember the Island of Misfit Toys from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer? That was us.

Unfortunately for me, I don’t have the cool excuse of being part SR44ian. I had another friend recently describe me as “beautifully strange.” I’ll take that

The Six Saviors Series takes place in Reno, Fernley and Phoenix. I grew up in Reno, ran a few track meets in Fernley, and live outside Phoenix today. In The Light Within Me, Noah and Abby go to a restaurant at Lake Tahoe called Gar Woods and have drinks called Wet Woodies. I got very, very drunk one wonderful afternoon many years ago with a girlfriend on Wet Woodies on that very deck. We had to call her boyfriend to come get us.

Finding My Faith

The hell raiser Faith was based on my brother when he was a kid – an absolute terror, always in trouble. When he was a teenager, he would tell my mom that he was going to a friends house, but would actually spend the afternoon skydiving. She just found out about this a few years ago, and my brother is now 40.

Another time when he was little, no one could find him. He was located hanging from the chain link fence in the backyard by the hood of his coat that had gotten hung up as he tried to make his great escape.

To this day, he is still an adventurer. As I write this, he is in Idaho on backwoods skiing trip. An actual day at the slopes is a bore.

Both Rayner and I love bacon

REBORN

Addiction. It’s a difficult subject to write about. I had first hand experience with it with my first husband. It’s tragic and ugly. ‘Nuff said.

Hudson and Abby have dinner at a resort named the Wigwam. I love this place. It is a couple of miles from my house, and I’ve enjoyed many meals and happy hours there.

Unfortunately for my family and anyone else who comes to dinner, I don’t share Hudson’s love for cooking. That means meals pretty much suck around here. I’m a huge fan of takeout.

Destiny’s Shift

Liberty reminds me of myself growing up. Obviously, I was never in servitude, but I did have a hard time finding my independence. I obviously don’t have blue hair or a diamond stud in my nose, but I did get a tattoo in college.

I sometimes wish I could hear people’s thoughts, but other times I think its best that I can’t.

Tangled Fates

We’ll just have to save this one for later.

When writing a book, the characters are always chattering in my head.

Cohen was particularly talkative, even putting together his own playlist. Usually, while driving, a song would come on the radio and it just “fit” the story perfectly.

So, here’s Cohen’s playlist.

Lonely is the Night – Billy Squier

It’s a high time to fight when the walls are closin’ in

Call it what you like

it’s time you got to win

Lonely, lonely, lonely

your spirit’s sinkin’ down

You find you’re not the only stranger in this town

Somebody that I Used to Know – Gotye

Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over

But had me believing it was always something that I’d done

But I don’t wanna live that way

Reading into every word you say

You said that you could let it go

And I wouldn’t catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know-oh-oh

Bent – Matchbox Twenty

Can you help me I’m bent

I’m so scared that I’ll never

Get put back together

You’re breaking me in

And this is how we will end

With you and me bent

Breaking the Habit- Linkin Park

I don’t know what’s worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream.
I don’t know why I instigate
And say what I don’t mean.
I don’t know how I got this way
I’ll never be alright
So I’m breaking the habit,
I’m breaking the habit
Tonight

Chasing Cars Snow Patrol

All that I am

All that I ever was

Is here in your perfect eyes, they’re all I can see

I don’t know where

Confused about how as well

Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here

If I just lay here

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

The Sound of Silence – Simon and Garfunkel

For this one, I was in the grocery store!

<ins><ins id="aswift_0_anchor"></ins></ins>Hello darkness, my old friend,
I’ve come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping in,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
